Intro to Cheekis Culture

What works for you - in design?

Interior Design should be approachable, functional and conform to the needs of the people that will use the space. Ultimately, every space should tell a story, and that story should answer at least some of these questions: Who are you? Who do you want to be? What do you want to do here? Where have you been? How do you want to feel? These are key ingredients to creating an authentic, livable space.

What works for you - culturally?

I am both a Greek and American citizen, which surrounded me with mixed cultures and language. The need to challenge myself and experience new environments is an ongoing lifestyle. Exposure to cultures unlike my own inspires me to design. Ultimately, I consider myself a people person and a creator.

I enjoy being a discoverer of people, art, architecture and nature.

What works for you - in art?

Art is subjective but it does not always need to come with a hefty price tag. I believe art should cultivate an emotional or spiritual response. Get what you love, not what you like.

What works for you - in a bedroom?

I prefer to keep it simple in the bedroom. I always say I want this room to feel safe and my bed to feel like a cloud. I always use white linens and down fill pillows! An open space plan with soft Scandinavian inspired colors creates a healthy environment for me to unwind and sleep.

What works for you - in a living room?

I want to socialize, tell stories, watch tv and drink cocktails in the living room. I figure, life should be lived the most in the living room. It's important to me to accommodate enough seating to suit myself and my guests, offer a variety of lighting to set the mood(s), stimulating art to grab attention as well as include a mix of textures and finishes to add comfort and space to breathe. My living room tells the story of international travel, nature and things that I've continued to love.

What works for you - in an office?

I often prefer a minimal design and space plan. Proper soft wiring is a must! I cannot stand to see loose cords or wires. A drafting table or adjustable height desk is required. I like pin boards to display my inspiration, large table tops for presentations and closed storage for materials. I prefer my office to feel a bit residential as well as I like to host client meetings there. Lots of natural light, varied oversized seating arrangements and soft background music is perfect!
